OK, and what is (where) the Magic SD card? You could just replace that with the stock one, but I would recommend starting fresh just in case you installed anything else that modified /system/. It sounds from the behavior that you have something tweaked in your SystemUI.apk. I believe that Erase/deregister cleans the /data/ folder, and the Magic SD card will clean /system/. The n button appears to just realign me back to the home screen but i don't get the white buttons that popo up.Īt this point, I would recommend doing the Magic SD card too if you can. There is also a white bar the spans the top of these. What I have on the screen now is BOOKS NEWSTAND MOVIES MUSIC APPS. What exactly did you end up doing to reset? Erase/deregister? Magic SD card?Įrase/deregister.
Seems like my big issue is there is no browser icon after resetting.
I'll be content with that until CM9 alphas/betas are released.Įdit: oh, and the FAQ has several links on how to deal with driver/device manager issues.
I did install the SystemUI.apk that has the ICS buttons and remaps the book icon to a home icon. I have Google Apps running, plus the Amazon Market, and am very happy with ADW launcher. Personally, I used N&Z over a month ago and haven't had any reason to do anything else.
either you go with Snowball mod (which removes as much of the B&N framework as possible) or you go with N&Z (which gives options from debloating. I don't think there really is any "latest and greatest" method. Do I even need to do the adb driver install or can that be bypassed? Suggestions? It still shows B&N Nook Tablet USB Device (twice) under Disk Drives in Device Manager. Starting from scratch - what is layest greatest root option Previously rooted with Zookandnergy.
Could one unpack a new fire and block the OTA by disabling the update mechanism allowing for the launcher and sdcard exploit to remain? There is also a systemui app in there somewhere. Just for the fun of it, I'm going to play with testing all the different "universal" rooting options to see if I can get around the launcher issue and I'll report back what I find. If anyone had an idea and was looking for people willing to brick to test because it was so cheap, I was willing to offer.
It had been a few days and no one said anything. I realize you're anxious, but if there are no posts, you don't need to ask again.Īww, c'mon, be nice. I'm game for being a guines pig and trying things. Just wondering if anyone's found a solution for this yet. This is stock launcher on 2014 models running OS 5.Ĭan we overwrite the ab with the Google now launcher? Maybe Gatesjr debloater tool (here on xda) will work to disable launcher package you identified. That update prevented changing the default launcher, and prevented micro-sd storage from appearing when granting permissions to write to external storage. It's extra annoying because it was possible until the day-1 update. I think we'll have to wait until someone roots it to achieve it, as it is impossible right now. The app "Home Switcher" doesn't work either. You can't even "clear" the default settings for Fire Launcher. I've tried to set multiple launchers as default, but none of them work. Really hoping someone manages to root this thing fairly quickly, it has awesome potential for a cheap little device but Amazon's persistence in locking stuff down is frustrating. You also can't give SD card write access to an app anymore as the SD card doesn't appear in the file manager that opens (eg when trying to copy a file from internal to sd card via es explorer) - but this did work on 5.0.0. Looks like the fire os update 5.0.1 locked things down a lot.
Check Parental Controls settings and retry."Īny other ideas what I can try to replace the launcher?Įxact same issue here. Instead I found but if I hide (block) that package, a tap on the home button brings up a message from the parent control saying "The requested action is not permitted. Pm list packages does not show a package, so hiding it, doesn't work. After the update, I had the default launcher again.įor older Kindel devices, I read, that you can block (in Lollipop it's now hide) the amazon launcher via adb. It was working fine, until the tablet (during use) restarted and installed 5.0.1.
I just (sideloaded) copied the apk for smartlauncher and installed it. Replace Launcher - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting I managed to replace the launcher in Fire OS 5.0.0.
